An easy way to sex them as juvies (I also learned this from jason) is females will have a black splotch in the dorsal area, and a male will not. I've never had a female so I'm not sure if fades as they grow or if it stays.

Thats what I've known too and was correct.

so whats the difference in Carp & Cyan???

i cant wait for a texas

Herichthys Cyanogutattus is the True Texas cichlid. Thats truely the only thing I know to be fact. Carpintis, I've heard is just a regional variant, meaning they are infact the same species, just over time, different environments have spawned slightly different appearances, for example, the carpintis is said more green in color whereas the guttatus is said to be more blue in color. Carpintis are also noted for the worm-like pearl formations around the mouth and close to the eye. True texas are said to (in general) grow larger than carpintis. Something is also said about the size of pearls on a carpintis being much larger than on a guttatus. I have also heard that the two are completely different species, but I have not read enough to take a side on either same species or not. If they are infact two completely different species, then I've probably got another hybrid. :WHOA:

Looks like cyanoguttatus to me. Nice fish.

I am .99% that is a full bred Texas. I have 2 males I am trying to get to breed with my Red Devil
