texas cichlid tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I no longer have the listed stock & have kept African Cichlids for the past six years.
I highly recommend keeping Festae. Both sexes of Festae are stunning & have distinct personalities.
My male Rivulatus / GT, was a gentle giant, relatively speaking, & actually dominated the Festae.
Here's a few pics. Wish I had all of them back.

I was in the early stages of transitioning to an African Cichlid community, so there were several Africans in the mix. I also had a pretty good sized school of spotted
Silver Dollars. A real mixed bag.
Thanks for the compliment. I like stacking rocks. Lol.

Lol, No real secrets. In general, when keeping aggressive cichlids together, whether it be different varieties or conspecifics, start them all together as juveniles.
Provide a complex & elevated hardscape & a tank w/ plenty of room. A completely cycled tank helps too. Lol.

Gotcha. I have community of juvenile in 125gallon tank and eventually moving all to 350gallon tank. Im still debating on add juvenile FESTAE but heard alot of mix reviews about them and tankmates

It all depends on what tankmates are paired with the Festae. Not a good idea to stock Firemouths or Rainbow cichlids with them, but bigger Cichlids such as Rivulatus, Jack Dempseys or a Texas Cichlid might do fine.
If rock piles are provided, a smaller aggressive Cichlid, like a Salvini, might be able to coexist.
I initially bought five or six juvenile Festae & eventually narrowed the group down to the best male & female.
Festae are definitely aggressive but IMO, Cichlids such as the Midas / Red Devil or even an adult male Texas Cichlid display far more intolerance towards tankmates.
