I think some of the mismatch was due to size, height, and reach difference/disadvantage and because Rigondeaux was slower going up two weight classes. Also, I realize Rigondeaux actually doesn't move in and out much. I've seen him plant his feet in fights and let his opponents come to him where he counters. That doesn't work with an opponent with longer reach like tonight. He was knocked down by the taller opponent in Japan.
Lomachenko is in his prime .. in his mid-twenties and Rigondeaux is 2 1/2 years from 40. That made a huge difference since speed and foot movement is so important at this level.
Another thing is that cuban footwork isn't very fast to begin with compared to loma's. Lomachenko's movement is incredible .. he looked like he was always a step ahead. I doubt even a Rigondeaux in his prime could keep up with him especially since his style is to react to movememt and counter-punch. It's always harder to react to movement than to just move at will like Lomachenko.
Lomachenko vs anyone is going to be a mismatch unless they're way bigger. Crawford could be it but I doubt that'll happen. Mikey garcia is possible. The idea is to have loma look great or at least very very impressive for the fans. If the opponent is too big like danny garcia or even bigger then he could look like rigondeaux did tonight and ruin his image. I'd like to see him fight pacquiao although he'd destroy pacman. Beating pacquiao would do the most for lomachenko's image .. pacquiao probably wouldn't do it though.
