I thank you for all this info, I generally use the rule 1" square of fish at adult size per gallon, so fish like gold fish require a minimum of 15 gallons each of space, but I know that a 20 gallon tank is not big enough for them to move around in at 12" long so I would go with 30 gallons being better for it, with more filtration than normal because I know they are a messy fish, but the same tank with say guppies can hold 30 or 40 because of there size and the bio load is smaller, it is more use common sense and knowing what your fish require by getting the right info before you buy it, know what you are going to need to take care of it as any fish keeper should.

I'm housing my 2.5 in silver aro temporarily in a 10 gallon is this ok until he is of size to put in my 55 gallon with my 4-5in Oscar 8-9 channel catfish and 5-6 pleco..I was thinking once he is 7-10in I would move him to the 55 I plan on getting a 265-300 gallon in the near future for my aro and friends
