The South American puffer, peaceful puffer???

How often should I feed snails? I have mussels, bloodworms, shrimp, other freezedried foods and pellets too.

In my 4ft tank, there are 2 bichirs, 2 ropefjsh, 1 african knife, 1 bushfish, 2 eels. One tyre track and one zig zag.

That depends on the puffer you get. Saps then daily. Congo I do it twice a week. I usually fast him 1 day a week too.

Just a little update, my baby tyretrack eel passed away today. I think it was from stress from yhe bichirs harassing him.

Aside from that have anyone kept schoutedeni puffers with bichirs or in an odball tank.

Imo it wouldn't be a good setup for one. Theres too many fish in the region it will spend most of its time in, too much competition to get food, etc. If the eel was stressed then the puffer will probably be as well.

They're pretty timid from what I've seen, but I haven't owned one. Just an educated guess based on keeping other puffers and what I've seen from these.

Diet wise I would keep it high crunch 3/4 of the time.

Personally I think it’ll work for a little while since I own a schoutedeni and see how gentle they are. However, I’d be worried that a large bichir will just eat the puffer. Imagine, bichir swallows puffer, puffer puffs up, bichir chokes on fat puffer, and it’s game over for both of them. Just a thought lol

Ok, what other suggestions do you guys have for another mid to top dweller odball for my tank?

Not a butterfly fish pls. My flows too strong

I think alot depends on the polys. If you have ljs or one of the big 3 ujs then alot may not work with them. Weird that the eel was harassed by the polys. Currently I have a Schoutedeni I don't have him with my polys for a couple reasons. Seeing how mine behaves id guess he would be fine as for going after polys anyway. Would the polys try to eat him the big dels might. Do I want to risk it either way no. I also like to feed him a variety and housed with polys and ropes they would be in direct competition for some of the food so that could end in agression. If you only fed snails to the puffer then that may be fine. But my puffer likes krill and blood worms as do the polys so that wouldnt be good I dont think. As for other good size oddballs if you want african I think you've got most of the more common ones that will work together. What about so Congo tetras for a mid upper level fish?

Congo tetras are awesome but it kind of spoils the odball idea.

They also "look" like fish. I already have fish that dont even look like fish. They are unique

Any other suggestions for mid dweller odballs?

Maybe African cichlids.

Probably the congo tetras will be my best bet

Congo tetras are beautiful for sure.

How about an African Knife fish if you’re trying to stick with fish from that continent? Not sure about their compatibility with bichirs but they’re definitely oddball. Maybe someone can chime in. Or possibly an African arowana if you’re tank is large enough?

EDIT: never mind, just saw your first post...African aro is a no go in a 90 gal
