The tatia galaxias,

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This catfish is awesome, I was looking at it myself. It's even better because you can breed them!

Be careful though, intermedia is often confused with galaxia, which is much more rare. Sellers will put galaxias to entice you into buying it thinking it is a very rare catfish. Here is the differences, from planetcatfish,

T. intermedia
is often confused with T. galaxias. Both species have dark base with light spots, but on T. intermedia spots are off-white and fade with age. In T. galaxias the spots are bright white, and the body is velvety black. The body shape of T. galaxias is also more slender.

Either way, both are awesome.
Interesting, it is an awesome catfish, going to have to look Into that

Have a group of 6 now. Always hiding but when food hits they are active. Lovely little cats as they are maybe 2in.

There are three types very similar, jaracatia, galaxias and intermedia, 3" , 4" and 5" respectively. Your photos 1 &2 look like galaxias but photo 3 starting to look more like jaracatia, but would still say it's galaxias.
wood wood and more wood, with some nice patches of java moss to lay their egg&jelly mass in. you can expect to see them when you feed for 5 minutes and maybe fleeting glances otherwise if you have not got the setup right. If you have however, they will happily swim around during the day IF its nice and subdued.
I have 7 jaracatia which have bred twice, raising the young is proving a challenge.
You should be looking at a group of 5 or more really for which the price of galaxias could be an issue. Here in the UK jaracatia were £9 each, galaxias could be tripple that.
for something you may not see that often the difference between galaxias and the others is maybe not big enough to warrant the extra spend.
My 7 bred in a 20 g twice and now in a 30g have shown no interest.
watch for biting at breeding time, the males tend to lose bits of tails, not sure if that's from the larger females or other males.

Ok cool! Good to know. I think I’m gonna do a sand substrate and surround the plants I get with gravel. I know a play near me with driftwood for like 15$ but they’re nice and big pieces. I also want to get lots. Plants I’ll make sure java moss is one of them. Thanks!
