Maybe try cutting back on quantity, Frank. I never experienced that, but it could be from using too much bacteria?

From early on in this discussion ........

I avoid the 'bits' getting into the tank by activating the powder in an old carafe first. 900 GPH clears up the cloudiness within minutes. I dissolve 4 tablespoons of Rid-X in aquarium water and shake/mix the concoction about every 30 minutes for 4-6 hours. Afterwards, I pour the liquid portion into the tank while leaving the sediment at the bottom of the carafe. A little bit of the sediment may get in the tank but doesn't seem to adversely affect the fish. The filter takes care of the sediment fairly quickly.

Well after reading 37 pages I have decided to give this a try in my heavily stocked 180 gallon Bichir tank. First dose tomorrow, I will update in 30 days with my results.
RD very informative thread. I like the potential impact on filter sludge and the competitive exclusion on pathogenic bacteria.

These products are best utilized in well established systems.

been using Seachem Stability and Pristine (both contain beneficial bacteria) for about 6 months (dosing one cap full per 40 gallons, half the recommended maintenance dosage), and recently started using Rid-X liquid (the directions say 1 cup for 1,500 gallon septic tank, so I've been dosing one ounce for my 150 gallon tank, and half an ounce in my 75, slightly higher than recommended dosage for a septic tank.

My issue is, with my last three weekly water changes, I've been getting bacterial blooms., that have been getting progressively more severe and lasting longer. Its been 6 days since my last water change, and the water is still cloudy, but getting better, not worse.

Didn't start getting the bacterial blooms until after using the Rid-X, but its only in my 75 gallon. Anyone have any thoughts as to which product, if any could be causing the bloom? Is it possible the blooms are related to something other than the products I'm using?

Just looking for some input to help me quickly diagnose the problem. Hoping someone has had similar experience and can help me quickly find the culprit.

Current water parameters:
pH 8.2
Ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate between 5 and 10

I'm no expert on the subject but I've never heard of anyone using the liquid Rid-x, everyone I've seen uses the powdered form. I wonder if that has something to do with it

Sorry, I have never used Rid-X, but agree with Shane, I have never heard of anyone using the liquid product.
