Thinking of taking my tank apart and leveling it

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The whole point of the bottom trimmed tank was to solve the problem of pressure points on the bottom pain, raise the glass off the surface, just so happens looks good to trim a tank out and adds to stability.

you can imagine with out it, the tank failure do to not padding right, or not padding at all on larger tanks would be nuts.

this why trimmed tanks have a tempered glass bottom for the most part. something to keep in mind before you drop that rock.

So its not the trim, its the way its supported. basically just sit the tank on stand where it is supported only on its edges.

as for the rock with tempered glass, i know rounded object do nothing to tempered glass, (up to a point) but sharp pointed objects will break tempered glass. I have seen bowling balls drop in 1/4 thick glass from 3 or 4 feet and it just bounces

chance you want to take? lets just not drop the rock, :) again level the stand, not the tank. not a big deal, few shims on the floor under the stand.

Thanks for your replies guys. And yeah Ill probably go with shimming the bottom of the stand. I do want to add a layer between the stand and the tank tho.' Since its an acrylic aquarium and to be sure to spread out the weight evenly. I might end up going with a black 1/4" rubber mat so that I can avoid painting the bottom black. I wanna do bare mottom this time around.

Phew! The last few weekends were busy!!
First I setup a 135 to house all my fish:

Rented a uHaul n took the 240 to a guy who specializes in buffing and painting... And then today I was finally able to level the stand:
