Tiger & Gorilla bass

They're not subspecies. The tiger bass is a supposedly super-aggressive line of northern largemouth bred by a private hatchery in AL. The gorilla bass is a cross between tiger bass and Florida bass.

I live in Monthomery, AL and the farm where these guys are bred is about 5 minutes from my house. I've talked with a biologist on staff and he said that regular northern strain and Florida strain are separate sub-species while remaining the same species. Subspecies are not genetically different enough to be different species but are still different. If the above info came from the Strike King website then it's actually backwards. The hybrid north LMB x FL LMB is called the Tigerbass. The only way it can be classified as a hybrid is if the 2 fish are at least genetically different enough to be subspecies.

Yes, the northern largemouth bass and Florida bass are separate subspecies (some researchers consider them full species). I thought you were calling the tiger and gorilla subspecies, which they are not. I did get the info from Strike King, thanks for the correction!
