you shouldn't release a fish that has been in captivity, that is unethical and possibly illegal...it could axquire diseases that could pose a threat to the natural habitat

Not long at all move it to a bigger tank ASAP the next time you look at it , it will be bigger

Also hope youdidn't keep it in an aquarium i don't think an amount of time will matter but once kept in captivity its illegal to let them go for risk of introduced bacteria and or parasites

you can buy them when someone stocks a lake with them they have to buy them unless they breed them themselfs also pet store carry them once i a while
