Tiger Oscar with Swim Bladder Issues..??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only use methylene blue in isolation tank not in the main tank

Thanks for the heads up. Is swim bladder contagious and possible to spread to the other fish in the tank? Or are you saying methylene is bad for the other non-sick fish?
OP take your oscar out of the tank and hospitalize him with methylene blue. This seems to be the only solution since he is not eating peas.

I would isolate the Oscar in a sick tank. I would medicate that tank with Kanamycin or Maracyn 1 and 2 combo if you can't get K. To this tank I would also add 1 TBS Mag sulfate to every 10G. I would then give the fish a 1/2 hour MethBlue bath twice a day in a bucket using 2x strength methblue.

I had also tried to force feed my EBJD a mixture of peas, tank water, and a few crystals of Mag sulfate but the fish was too far gone at that point. I used a syringe with airline tubing to get it down into the stomach. Just some ideas for you to try as SBD is one of the most difficult things to cure IMO. As far as being contagious, it all depends on the cause and there are multiple reasons for it. If bacterial then it is theoretically contagious. If constipation then it would not be contagious.

Supposedly parasites can also cause the condition. Was/is the fish pooing? Was/is it normal looking? Some have had success with Jungle Parasite Clear if parasites were the cause.

I haven't really seen mine go since it started..My GF swears one night after I put in the Epsoms, he was hanging upside down in the corner where he goes to be still, and she saw him farting :/ But no, I haven't seen mine going at all..

Just an update. We're on over a week now. I finally got her eating and thought she would be alright. She hasnt been the SAME since, but, ...She just kinda floats around usually going to the "tide" spinning and whatnot. BUT, she had started eating, so I thought, no problem, she just goin to be "weird". Now?. I just got up to find her sitting on her side in her pot. I tried to help her, so she proceeded to cram herself upside down under the pot. I finally grabbed her out, flipped her rightside up, and let her go. Well, now she just kinda floating on her side looking at me out the corner of her eye :_( ... WTH do I do??...If she dying on me after all this?...THIS SUX..

Sitting here watching here, its almost like the opposite of before. Befoer she seemed like she couldnt keep from floating up, now she cant seem TO get up...

You have to try force feeding it with mixture of peas and espom salt. That's the only way i could think of. Though the sight of it maybe unpleasant for some.

See?...THATS what I said, but i went on Yahoo questions (:/), and asked about shoving a pea down a fishs throat, and they acted like a was a freak or an idiot and said it would kill her. I just got back home, and shes now forcing herself upside down between "her pot and a hard place"..Cant figuire if shes trying to get her stomach back goin, or if shes dying on me still. Have to admit, I half expected to come home to a dead fish. My GFs bawlin, makin me feel bad,...THIS SUX

Well, I decided to try and give her some relief. I gently squeezed her belly, and it looked like a mixture of "slime" and air came out of her. She was finally able to sink. Woke up this morning, shes still alive, but not alot better. Anyone got any suggestions that dont involve killin her yet??
