I apologize ahead if time if a thread like this already exists but I tried a search on my phones app and couldn't find anything but I was wondering if I could get info on which would be more suitable with larger sa cichlids and possibly personality differences as well or actual experiences with either species

I heard fire eels have more personality. And they dont have big mouths so no risk of it eaating a tank mate.

Do you know if there is a big difference in actual size between the two once fully grown not just mouth size? I've learned never to fully trust measurement sheets at lfs

First off fire eels and tire tracks are not freshwater morays, they are spiny eels, which actually isn't an eel at all. It's an elongated fish. I have owned spiney eels for about 2 months, wanted one for 4 years, and researched for about 5 years. I have a fire eel right now and he's awesome. I'll break it down:

FIRE EEL
-good personality
-community safe (as long as you put no tiny fish in there)
-grows to 36"+
-pretty shy until it gets larger

TIRE TRACK
-more shy than fire eel
-more aggressive
-not as picky of an eater
-grows to 30"+
-cool patterns

Overall, if you have the space, patience, and ability to fish-proof your aquarium because eels are escape artists, then I would recommend a fire eel.

I know that tire track and fire eels aren't morays or true eels, what I meant by my statement was that if anyone had any other "eel like" suggestions other than the fire or tire track then I'm open to hearing about them but I didn't want anyone suggesting a moray because I don't want to go through the process of converting him to brackish or marine. But as far as the comparison of fire and tire track that you did that's awesome and exactly the kind of break down I was looking for so thank you for that! Will a glasstop enclosure hold them in providing I cover up any space around filter ect? Or would I need something on top for weight?

Ok sorry I misread your post! And it depends. Some people who have kept eels in glass tops say they can push it open, some say they can squeeze through the smallest of cracks, and a lot of people say they love to find a way to get into your filter, which could be very dangerous for your eel. I think if you provide plenty of hiding places, have good water quality, and the right temperature, I think the eel will be very unlikely to try and jump. If you do get a fire, don't be surprised if he doesn't eat for a while, be patient. If you are looking into other spiney eels then check out the member "MonsterMinis" She has lots of pictures of her collection in the eels media lounge. I suggest against peacock and zig zag as they seem to be VERY shy. If you don't want a spiney, there's the electric eel, idk if its freshwater or not, but I believe it is one heck of a beast. I love my fire eel. He is out a heck of a lot more then my zig zag is, and he's better looking too lol. Be careful if you're getting a tire track as those are always mislabeled. Try to get the scientific name. Armatus and Favrus are the two types of true true track. But for sure check out the eels media lounge as they have lots of pictures of fires an tire tracks!
