my glass 250g has been scratching more and more and it’s really started to bug me, i don’t really know what could possible be scratching the tank so much but it seems to congregate at the bottom mostly, maybe the sand is scratching the glass but i don’t think there should be that many. i also use a magnet scraper and cleaner but not sure if those can be culprits

here are some pictures, deconstructing the tank is not an option unfortunately

Magnetic cleaners are notorious for picking up fine particles of substrate and scratching the glass, especially so if sand is being used. I no longer clean along the substrate line with my magnetic cleaner, I used a clean dish scrub pad (non-metal) and do one consecutive line without breaking contact the full width of the front viewing panel.

Im actually going to posit a different theory. How old is the tank? And do the scratches seem to show up in the lighted portions of the tank? Its possible that these are very fine scratches, always been there, and theyre only showing visibly like that when a thin layer of algae covers the glass?

the tanks quite new, 1-2 years give or take

please elaborate on lighted, the entire tank is lighter no?

if it is algae i could try to scrape it off but since i’ve retired my magnetic what could i use? magic eraser?
