1) The Exorcist (of course.)

2) The Omen

3) The Amityville Horror (original)

4) Nosferatu (original)

5) Alien

6) The Thing (remake)

7) The Shining (film version)

8) Hellraiser

9) Dawn Of The Dead (original)

10) 'Salem's Lot (1979 miniseries/ film versions)

Exorcist is up there. Never saw the original dawn of the Dead, but the new one was both scary and funny . I would probably add the movie Seven and SAW to that list. 28 days later could be added. These are my personals so I wouldnt say they are the scariest of all time.
