T Tro1 I hope your search is successful mate. Tropheus do best in hierarchical groups though. I have a mixed species tank of tropheus, so mixing species is possible, but I recommend a minimum of 10, but preferably 15 or more is better for group stability and aggression 👍🏼
What size tank do you plan to house them in?

60gal is very small for tropheus. They are super active and the males develop territories that they strongly defend. If you ended up with 6 males in a mixed group of 12 you’re going to have deaths for sure.
I have kept a single species group in a 75gal but as the males began to develop territory and get aggressive I reduced the number of males down to 3 with 12-15 females.
my mixed species tank now is a 6’ 125gal.
No deaths but LOTS of chasing 😅

There all right. You need large quantities of Tropheus to keep the group alive. Have breed many. Check out this distributor for wild stock. Will do smaller shipments & has good quality stock.

I've been keeping tropheus for about 30 years. I made some mistakes and lost colonies of tropheus, the most heart-wrenching was a colony of 30 wild Ilangi back in 1996. I still keep Tropheus F0-F2, in various variants, ages, and tanks. In my experience, a small colony of 18 F1 siblings can be kept in as little as a 40-gallon aquarium. There must be many rocks and plants (anubias and floating pants) for cover such as in my Tropheus 40-gallon community tank (see picture). They are with angelfish, loaches, rasboras, tetras, and cories. These Tropheus ikola were from the same batch and have been raised to maturity, so they get along better than an unrelated group that fights for dominance. I have kept 12 Tropheus deboisi Maswa in a 100-gallon tank with plenty of rocks. There were 2 males and 10 females to keep the dominant male from being lazy but not killing the other male and harassing any one female to death. I don't believe a group smaller than 12 would work with Tropheus. Some other individuals may have a different experience than me. Many use a bare tank because there is no territorial spot for the dominant male to protect and kill for it. But in any case, if a Tropheus is hiding in an upper corner remove it from the tank.
