i am very interested in getting one and i'm wondering how big do they grow in captive and how long it takes them to grow to that size. Jeff rapps is selling some 10 inchers and I have a 75 gallon tank. How long can i keep one in?? I can upgrade in 3 years once I get to university. I just wondering. please don't flame me.

thanks

I believe most gars around 2ft dont know much about tropical gars but,I have 2 florida gars 13" and 15" they grow slow I think tropical gars may grow a little faster. 75 gallons would work for a while I dont know if for 3 years or not just keep the water clean and no overly aggressive takmates. You will need around 200 gallons in the long run. Gars are also prone to back injuries from hitting glass so it is best to move to bigger tanks only as they need the room. I know form experience my gars do some crazy stuff if they freak out.

How long will a 10 incher survive a 75 gallon?? I will nag my dad to get like a 150 gallon or something. Is a 5 feet by 2 feet tank good for life??

basically, what the distinctive difference betwwen the tropical and florda gar?? They look absolutely the same. LOL.

how do they freak out?? what did you do to freak it out??

I have one pushing 28". I have had it over 4 years and the previous owner had it for a little while. I got it when it was about 15-16". I feed every day almost and its in a 10x4 tank. You will at least need a 5x2 tank for the first couple years.

It will not work considering that some of the gars from the Singapore tropical gar order are around 24" long after being imported a little over a year ago with most of the other ones being around 16" to 17" long.

what's the singapore tropical gar order?? sounds interesting.
