not sure what happened to it. it arrive in that condition and i'm given the chance to groom it back to health. based on the condition now, it looks like bacterial infection.

is the one under treatment eating? looks like it was ammonia burn that progressed into a bacterial infection due to lowered immune system/increased toxicity. if the fish is eating or trying to eat then you are in better shape.

make sure the water is pristine, and add about 1 tbsp of salt per 20gal water. keep temp at 82F, and i would recommend 50% water changes every day until you start to see some improvement.

the damage is quite progressed, but the fish can still bounce back - keep us posted as to whether the infection is spreading, decreasing, or staying the same. we can advise on further measures if necessary. good luck; they are tough fish, so hopefully your little TPG will bounce back soon!--

So far I'm doing 100% water change everyday for it as I'm keeping it in very shallow waters.

I'm hoping to get some antibiotics from the vet. So far the infected area remains the same but those "moulding" have worsen.

i wouldn't use just any antibios yet, there are a few that works for gars and several that just make conditions worse. tetracycline tends to work, but we don't like using it until most everything else has failed.

one treatment that works well with bacterial/fungal issues is just using topical neosporin (or something similar) and just "gob" it right on to the infected area. it works surprisingly well, and i have used it on a number of primitive fish species (lungfishes, bowfin, gars, etc).

good job with the water changes, and make sure to add salt too. best of luck and keep us posted!--

Many thanks to Alex and Angus, when I couldn't go down to collect the fish.
