Hey Sol, I've read about gars losing tooth size in captivity, and I was wondering(mainly because I'm planning to) if they would retain larger teeth if I fed them live their entire time with me. I know that they've probably already been pellet trained though.

I'll mainly be feeding feeder species while they're small, and cichlids as they grow.
 
posted this on the pre-order thread but thought I might as well post it here as well for those who are following the order. The shipment was shipped out on monday but was delayed at frankfurt because of some issues with the health cert. They should be arriving shortly.

there was further discussion of this in the gar video thread, you may want to check that for more details. the large teeth issue is related to being in the wild and a plastic adaptation to needing to capture food in that sort of environment. even feeding live in captivity would not really create the right environment to create enough pressure for this adaptation to take place. so in short, no, live food is not going to result in wild-type teeth morphology.--

awesome! hope all goes well; they are tough fish and the farm packs them well, so you guys should be fine. i'm kind of vicariously re-living the excitement of these fish coming in!--

am seriously excited. hope no DOA! (they've been in the bag for 5 days already). will update all when the fish arrive!!!!

Juz wondering have the T gar cleared frankfurt custom? If yes where the shipment heading nw? Looking forward for the shipment. Hopes everything goes well
