Over there
What is the growth rate of your guys' tiger shovelnose catfishes? I've had mine about 4 months now and it grew from 1" to 6" in 3 months and now it doesn't seem to be growing at all. I got a red tailed catfish at the same time and that guy is massive compared to my shovelnose (about a foot).

wow sry but it took ur RTC 4months to get to 1 ft what size tank is he in???
and the TSN mite not be grow cuz the RTC mite be stealing his food do u see any thing like that going on in the tank???
thats what happened to my RTC hybrid my RTC is 1year and nearly 2 ft and my hybrid is 1.5years and like 12-13inchs he only gets 2 peaces of food every time i feed him

They're in a 150g right now. I'm feeding them massivore and the rtc eats a lot of it but not all of it. There's still plenty leftover for all the other fish. The tsn for some reason doesn't eat that much. Only like 2 or 3 pellets and then just swims away and ignores the rest. They're both really lazy though. The rtc just hangs out under a piece of driftwood and I've honestly never seen it leave it. The tsn hangs out right next to it except it faces up against the side glass next to the heater and that's where they are pretty much 24/7. They're not very active at all.

Well, it sounds like you answered your own question. RTC eats like a pig, as it should. TSN's eating barely in comparison. My TSNs always liked fleshy foods - fish pieces, shrimp, mussels, seafoods, etc. Pellets were taken reluctantly.

I agree. My tsn hated the pellets. wouldn't touch em. but i fed him tilapia fillets and he ate them just fine, but he did eat only a little bit compared to my rtc. i think its just normal when they are in a tank together..

Redtails have an amazing growth rate far better than the tsn but having said that if giving the same amount of food the tsn should have similar growth rate most definately. But RTC are pigs and tend to get much bigger faster because of that. They Should be 6 inches in about 2 months and 1ft in about 4-6 months. It really depends on how much you feed them and water quality. Both my tsns and rtcs have similar growth rate the tsns one being a few inches shorter and one being a few inches longer than my rtcs but there is definately a difference in girth for sure.

I have numerous types of large cats, tiger shovelnose, redtail, and a goonch. I found a neat/effective way to get them to eat with less competition. There is a product call Moonbeams they are small glass tubes wit about 5 leds per tube, you will need one tube for every 3 cu.ft. of water. they dont light up much but if you feed live especially it makes the cats more active. Since most cats are more active at night anyways. ****before anyone jumps on the fact that goonch get very large yes they do, But I have dedicated alot of time and even more money in a very large 2-wall tank. approx. 2600 gallons, with 14 fx5 filters and one large almost pool style setup.****

when kept as the only cat in my tank my TSN grew at the same insane rate ive heard RTCs do... that being said he ate live, and ate alot of it. sounds like a food issue, not neccisarily genes or water quality ect. the more young fish eat the faster they grow. he was a pita.. never was able to get him offa live.

My TSN grows at a much slower rate than my RTC. Almost half the pace, but the TSN always has a full stomach so he is getting food.
