To be honest I did lose a few but the majority survived, The water temp did get to 33oC that I measured and could have been more. I tried to find water temps for the local dam but looks they don't record/list them. Murray Cod are native where I am and air temps get to about 40oC where I am, they also occur in much cooler climates. Heavy breathing may be a sign of lack of oxygen, potentially caused by the warmer water.

In a river you've got big differencials in temp. Shallow banks are very hot. Mid water is different to that. The bottom is often crazy different than the air outside. They'll live in high temps for a while, but not very long.
I do agree with you. I added some shade cloth around the exposed IBC sides when I noticed the high temps, the other two sides were already shaded by the fence.

Fish-Story The Taiwan farmer from whom these fish came said they keep theirs at up to 30C / 86F. It's water was at 86F in the prior tank and 82-83F in the new tank.
paulstingray They are a cold-water fish, I live in the subtropics in AU and only keep one larger Murray thats around 90cm now, summer is a right pain here, mine is currently at 14.5c / 58.1f (winter) and is super active. They are not native to my area but when it's hot they tend to go into deeper cooler water from what I believe.
