Update. I am bolt-less.
The one that was in 240 gal staked a large portion of it for itself and was chasing everyone else away from there - catfish, gourami, flagtail redfin prochilodus, etc. After some months of this, I had had enough and placed it in the "jerk" 240 gal, seeing how it can handle itself. Well, not against the jerks - purple Labeo and Distichodus lusosso in the first and foremost place. These made a quick work of the bolt, in a few hours it was dead. My error was that I did the transfer just before leaving for a few hours and didn't expect such swiftness. I should have.
That was roughly a year ago.
The other that remained all these years in 4500 gal fell ill in July 2018, stopped feeding completely until its passing at the end of Sept 2018. From the puffed up face and other signs, I am guessing columnaris, one of the four strains that works internally. This bacteria has been on a killing spree in all our tanks lately.
Both bolts reached roughly 16"-18". One was 2.5 years old. The other 3.5 years old.
The damage on this latter one is done post mortum I believe. Or perhaps the VATF did it favor and finished it off after 3-4 months of the illness.
If you are squeamish, don't look.
