Uaru tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi Peter... They look beautiful.. If I could fit a bigger tank they would definitely be on my "gotta have" list... Yes I know they are not eartheaters haha but we all eventually branch out.
Al (SimplyDiscus) has some festivum from Ryans bunch I think..and I am thinking of getting some of them for my 55... It seems sooo small after the 120 haha.. I've got some redfin tetras leftover from cycling and just added some bolivian rams to build up the bacteria load.. down the line will probably have discus again but for now thinking of maybe adding festivums... Too small for my eartheaters/oh I think don't you.. Any news on how my "babies" are doing in their new home??
Fingers crossed for you and the possibility of fry.. TC Sue

Sue, Al has my first group of wild festivums. He has spawned thousands of F1 fry from them. I'm working with a different wild group now. They are a different species.

Peter, your uaru definitely outgrew mine. I think I'm going to separate them from my severums and hopefully they'll get plenty to eat. Maybe they can still put on some size. Yours look incredible.

Just another note about festivums, at least the wild types... They can be extremely nippy! My first batch at 2" attacked full grown discus. My current batch go after my severums and angels, and anything that swims too close really.

well that's to assume they are a pair.....I hate to assume - it leads to assumptions :D

how are the abalios doing :naughty:

They have not spawned again since the intial attempt but that's my fault. They are a little insecure because I have been catching different fish in their tank allot recently thinning the stock. Set up a new tank so I'm splitting everyone up and giving some away.

What's been you experience with the festivums? Recommend them?

Hi Sue - how come you have room for a 55 but not a 120? Just an extra foot wide :D I actually want to do a dwarf SA tank at some point...with lots of plants (if I can keep them alive)...

I agree a 55 is probably too small for a group of Geophagus, but you can do Gymnogeophagus. Many of them don't get as big and are just as (if not more) colorful. Haven't talked to Karl in a while (the person I gave your fish to) but will ask.

I think it might be the extra room - they went straight into a 220 and then a 300. I actually think this 90g tank is too small for them. If they don't show any actions in a few weeks I'll have to move them back, and get the next species on deck.

The festivums do seem nippy amongst themselves and have no problem fending off the flagtail, but they seem very afraid of the Uaru :) Will keep a close eye on them.

Well I can't tell you much - I've only had them for a week or two. But they are definitely not boring :)
