There's always a lot of vids out there showing immature specimens more or less working together, but these communities tend to always fail in "normal" sized monster tanks. I'm sure in something that was 10k gallons or so you could get a different result, but those of us in the normal, sub-1000 gallon class are doomed to failure.
The groups of immature fish tend to work until the fish reach sexual maturity at 15 inches or so. Yes, vatf and fatf shoal in the wild, but ONLY in groups of like sized immature fish. They becoming increasingly intraspecifically aggressive at maturity.
Goliaths are fairly skittish when young, but as they mature they tend to simply cut annoying tankmates in half. There's a reason you never see more than one large gatf in anything other than the largest of public aquarium sized enclosures.
These are not social fish once they reach maturity.
