Vieja Argentea

very nice large argentea, but honestly 16"? I'd love to see one by a tape measure coming in at 16". I dont mean to sound skeptical, but 90% of the time i hear someone say their fish is 16" long it ends up being only about 12 when actually measured

The only guy on this website I ACTUALLY know in person, and agrees with me haha.

I'd say a 75 gallon for a single one.

People get away with huge Midas' in 75g's all the time.

I agree 16" is a bit extreme...I'd say more 13"-14" for a mature male (and these grow quite a bit slower than their midas counterpart, so even that takes a while).

I'd say 75 for life, but bigger is always better.

So if I put one of these fish in a 90 gal. tank that is pretty much done for the tank right. Even just this fish would be pushing it?

Sorry to derail my own thread, lol, but just out of curiosity how many Uaru can fit in this tank.

Although my females only hit about 12", I've had two alpha males that were just shy of 15" total length, and I wouldn't use anything less than 150 gal tank one of them myself, and for a pair or trio, I'd want 300+ gallons.
In my 150 my first alpha male killed all others housed with him, and I had started with 11, one inch juvies.
Mine came from Don Conkel, and I had gone to his fish farm to pick them up, and the parents easily topped 15", and were in a 1000 gal vat in his green house.
I believe in nature you don't often see those large individuals, because predation from large birds, and reptiles takes its toll (and fishing for human consumption in places like lake Lachua), but in a well kept, large aquarium 15" is not uncommon.
