just curious what this fish species is? When I google Vieja synspila it comes up with a red head Cichlid and a variety of different color cichlids.

This rainbow color fish is beautiful and I was just curious what it was called.

Paraneetroplus synspilus. It's often grouped in with Vieja, but AFAIK Vieja is a completely separate genus.

Thank you all, I’m not getting one...maybe a future goal.

I just wanted to read about them bc I’m a fish nerd and like reading things about interesting fish :)

These Vieja are great to keep if you have an appropriate size tank. To me, anything under 100 gallons is too small, for a pair alone.
Their coloration tends to intensify with age.
When young they look like this.

They also have beautiful similar colored cousins like V bifasciata

and V breidhori

all needing spacious accommodations.

These fish are beautiful...I’m def not “planning” to get anymore fish...yet!

I’m about 5 years away from a larger tank, when I buy a house the basement will be a fish room for sure!

Do you keep any of these fish?

I have kept most of the Vieja genus and their close cousins (my photos are all fish I have kept), but hardly ever, more than one species of the genus (or its look a likes) together in a tank successfully.
And I agree it is best to wait until you can provide appropriate accommodations, for any fish.
A few of the other similar species once considered in Vieja, but not now DNA evidence has separated them.
