  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya. I have to say I really love the look and coloring and paterns on this fish. Not sure if he is a watter pet per say... I have heard they are shy. but both my wife and I love them.

My wife is the one that pointed them out when a guy of craigslist was selling his fry. And from the 4 fry I have now and the 5 more members of there brother and sisters be will be adding. We are pretty content with them. And I know that as they grow, and if im lucky in finding a male and female. We will need to separate them down the road. But by then I will have our 300g tank or have built our extra long 22" tall and 22" deep plywood aquarium for anyone without a mate.

As a young man I got into oscars, and jack Dempsey fish with just hob filter like marineland emperor and " millenium 1000" hob filters. I know there are a lot of good typs of fish out there. But we are kind of fond of the Festaes.

I thank everyone for the help and now im going to research making there own food.

My wife said I did a 50% water change like 3 days ago. I think I need to keep a log book. But tonight I think I will do like a 30% water change and then maby another 50% friday. I know having nothing but 18 or so kribensis fry and 4 festae fry is not a big bio-load. But I hear everyone telling me fish geow faster with fresh water changes. Then weighting on the nitrAtes to tell me to change the water from a 125g (LOL) fry tank.

How big do they get? I'm trying to figure out if I could keep a pair or not in my 150 with a mated pair of Oscars.

Well. The parents to my fry were only like 9" I think. But I think they have websites that say the male of female get up to 16" but I think that was in the wild. In aquariums. I think its more like 12"

Never too late to a party. As long as the party is still going. What a great looking fish. I thank you guys. My wife fell in love with a craigslist add for baby festaes and the guy had pictures of the fry and mom and dad. So she was a lot disappointed when I brought home 4 grey looking guys but we added 16 more since then. I told her they were babys and had to grow. so I thank you all for your help and pictures.

We love our f1 festaes and have tanks lined up as they grow out of start fighting. Here is a short video of them right now I took last night.
