So I got with the times and got the vac thing that hooks to the sink, is that as fast as it drains a tank, is their a trick to make it drain faster? Wishful thinking? lol

Don't use the faucet to drain the tanks, just start it like a regular siphon and let the water drain out the window, door, into the tub, whatever (I drain mine right into the basement sump.) It is faster. The only time I use the faucet hook up to drain is to start my tanks on the bottom racks, then once the water is flowing I un-hook it and let those drain into the sump also. This saves a lot of water.

I just got my aqueon water changer in january and have also noticed its slower than how i used to do water changes with a normal siphon. On the positive side, it saves me from hauling a 32 gallon trash can back and forth to drain and fill my tanks!

Hook a submersible pump to the tank end of the hose and drop it in the tank. I drain 90 gals out a 180 in about 5 min that way..

I have used this method with much success and I must admit, it's a real time saver. Especially if you have multiple tanks. It's filling them back up which takes time using the water from a sink water faucet and hose. It may be a good thing though as it allows for you to regulate water flow to gently re-enter the tank. I hope things work out for you and you do well with your tank(s). ~ David

The problem with this and the FX5, is that you can't vaccum the gravel, and you still need to re-fill the tank. The whole idea of the python is to be able to do both, and you can set the water temp. before opening the valve to re-fill.
