I have a pair of cons in a 20 gal and today they spawned dfor the first time!!! The female would not come out from under the big rock or let the male under it so I shone a flashlight under there and there they were stuck to the underside of the rock! (there must have been some kinky stuff going on to get them up there!)

Anyway, I have been changing 20% every few days and am due again. Should I do it with the eggs unhatched? How about once the fry hatch? The eggs are stuck to the underside of a big flat rock so I am not woried about washing them off of it or anything but will the parents eat them if I disturb them too much? This is their first time spawning.

Normally, I would say leave the water alone. But these are cons, so they may not mind. However, this is their first time, so I would probably leave them alone.

I usually don't change water until the eggs hatch, just to make sure nothing goes wrong with the eggs.

i wouldnt change the water. even if they hatch fry are sensitive to water changes. (new temp etc)

I agree with not changing the water with unhatched eggs although your fish will likely lay eggs again and again. Cons are tough though. After the young hatch, I would maybe do a small 10% water change by siphoning aged replacement water into the tank with a crimped airline hose, i.e. drip the new water in slowly.

Good call on the airline hose. I will definitely try it in a few days.

yeah my convicts laid eggs just b4 i was planning on doing a water change. i figured it'd be safest to just leave the tank alone for now. i'm about 2 weeks over for the water change but i don't want to suck any of the babies up or have any differnce in water to kill them. it's ok though cause i have a 46 gallon bow front with 14 cichlids, 1 algea eater, and one silver finned shark being cleaned by a Rena Filstar xp2 reated for 75 gallons. the tank stays clean like crazy! once the kids are 3 weeks old and the parents stop taking care of them so much i'll put the kids in a breeding net (is that what you call them?) and clean the tank. convicts are such good parents. ;)

I've seen cons bred in Home Depot buckets....
