Water clarifier, Are they really useful?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
By this stuff, do you mean the accu-clear?

Whenever the water looks cloudly from all the food junk and stuffs.

But no more then once per water change, which is done once a week. I also dose half the recommanded dosage on the instructions just to be safe

I have never used this stuff before but I always assumed it was a polymer (flocculant). Coagulants will create "microflocs" but you generally need a polymer to form these "microflocs" into larger particles that can settle or be filtered out.

Is the Accu-Clear slippery when you rub it between your fingers?

Burt :)

Feels like it to me

Then I believe this stuff is a flocculant, probably just a high molecular weight anionic polymer, very dilute. This stuff costs nothing to produce in that quantity, man they are making a killing on it (I should be in a different business lol...).

I normally just let suspended particles settle out on their own. If for some reason I need to clear up the water faster I have a small hang on canister with a fine micron filter in it that I use, temporarily, to polish the water.

Hmm, as im doing my regular wc today. I wanted to add some Accu-clear but wasn't so sure. Gave the whole bottle a shake, open the cap and I could hear FIZZING!!!

Sniff it, smells like pepsi...
Threw it in the trash can, im gonna use micron filter to clear my tank

A great little mech filter is a HOT mag 250. Also throw some Purigen in your canister, my water in my 33 is just annoyingly clear after I began using it. ;)
