Yeah anything that causes cancer in lab animals I'd stay away from. A guy far more knowledgeable than myself told me it's made up mostly of fish oils. Guys at my work use it as hand cleaner :screwy:

petroleum products cause rubber to dry and crack over time so no vaseline. I've been looking for o ring grease

Well Eheim recommends using regular Vaseline as an alternative to their proprietary lube. I've used it in a pinch but prefer to use plumbers o-ring lube for potable water systems. The plumbers o-ring grease is a bit stickier but Lifeguard also offers an o-ring lube that is similar to Eheim's lube but it's not cheap for the amount you get.

Also, I don't think Eheim uses a straight rubber product for their o-rings. I've seen some of them advertised as a silicone based material but not the 2217 specifically.

I actually did a little reading about the product online and saw that it obviously wasn't safe :screwy: There wasn't much about it on the back of the can.

I decided to use a cheap and unique alternative - chapstick! Someone I know suggested Burt's Bees, a chapstick made from beeswax. Worked wonderfully. Thanks for your help guys.

You can go to any pool supply store and get a small tube of lube that is what I use.
