I can't believe it's eating pellets already but thats great......and it is about eight 8 inches in length.
Agreed… last ones i kept took a year to get on cut shrimp lol…I can't believe it's eating pellets already but thats great.
My old one took a few weeks to get onto frozen minnows and eventually DIY gel food cut into strips...but the Chain Pickerel were hitting freeze-dried krill within days of capture. Go figure.Agreed… last ones i kept took a year to get on cut shrimp lol…
Oh it is such a relief that this guy is taking pellets as I don't have to share my food with it anymore lol...it'll lunge at the first one tossed in and will come around for the remaining floaters a few minutes later.Well, I couldn't pass up the opportunity of joining in this thread could I, lol. Great pick up Krich, definitely keep us posted on developments.
It seems when you guys catch pike in the US and Canada it can be a little confusing at times in nailing the exact species. Pike, muskie, pickerel, slight variations in looks, and at different stages in development etc etc.
Thankfully, in the UK we don't have this problem. If you catch a pike in the UK it is 100% going to be the true northern pike (Esox Lucius). We don't have anything else to muddy the waters!
It's great, and a little surprising too Krich that it is readily taking pellets. When I used to catch small pike as a kid I found that they absolutely loved earthworms too. I'd spot the pike in shallow water, throw in a freelined worm, and they just couldn't resist that visual wriggle. Unsurprising given that they are a visual hunter.
I'm looking forward to updates.
