Bit of a thread dig here, but this is something that has always really bothered me at LFS's. Hardly ever any mention of adult sizes and alot of the time, at least here in Australia, the stores are struggling to the point they dont say anything so as not to jeopardize their sales. Iv saved people from future disaster a couple times now

it is important to point out "max size" is not absolute. Fish can surprise in the uk we have a koi over 4 feet long and 90+lbs was imported from aus. Also I have seen a giant goramy called George that was easily 3 feet long.

I have seen a number of fish beat their max size as well as other animals,I generally refer to this as gigantism and it can apparently occur in about any species.

I started with a RTC in a 55 gallon....to a 90......120......180....220.....300.....2500....now....10 years later.... in a 5000 gallon pond in my basement. If I go any bigger my wife will kill me in my sleep.

Seems to miss out several mega species and also has some inaccuracies. Arapaimas and nile perches should be included, the paroon shark can also grow to around 6ft.
 
I knew that about the giant Gourami's, but not about some of the others. This is a suuuuper helpful post.
