what am I... (pink convict hybrid?) (pics)

maybe its just me or the pic, but is the fish injured in any way? Also, how long has that black mark been on the left side of the fish? In both pics there seems to be a black mark on the side. If it is a black mark, then you got yourself a marbled convict. the marbeling is not strong, but if you breed it to a black female convict with pink gene, its has been said that you should get some fancy marbled convicts.

To answer your question.. no its its not injured. He's doing well maybe some fin damage towards the back from an occasional nip.

to answer your second question yes he does have a couple black smudges, not very dark. Had those from the begining.

I've considered breeding them but not sure I want the headache of taking out fry or the added aggression. Thats why I picked out the males. If I decide to breed them what do you suggest I do with the other convicts and how many females would I need to add to the tank?

How many other convicts do you have? How big of a tank? Me personally, depending on the size of the tank and the fish, I would keep the other convicts as dithers. When introducing the female, if she wants to breed, she will most likely choose the biggest and best male...which I assume would be the male you posted. If there is a bigger male, then take that male out and make sure the male you want to breed has control of the tank. From here, the female would most likely choose that big male and breed with him.

I have 6 male pinks in the tank. I have 3 in the 3" range and 3 smaller ones. The tank is 135gal. Do I need to add several females in order to protect the females from abuse?

135 gallon... thats big. I would suggest adding 2-3 females if and only if you want to breed them. They should pair up quickly and start breeding soon. As long as you have plenty of spaces for the fish to hide in, you dont need to worry about abuse.

I know that once they start breeding there is gonna be fry everywhere. It is likely that most will get eaten by the other fish and convicts?

I dont mind a few survivors as long as I can get them out eventually.

Update: I decided to take out 3 of the smaller pinks and I picked up 2 female regular convicts. Boy did it change up the convict chemistry. I can verify now that the pictured convict at begining of thread is the dominant male. He's been running the others out of the way and been getting the attention of the new arrivals.

I'm hoping that after a few days they calm down some because i'd hate for the other pinks to get too stresed out. The funny thing is that the other pinks are slightly bigger but they dont have the dominate hump.

He didnt act dominant until females got in the mix.. but thats nature right.
