  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't cook this, but had to share this awesome lunch from my hospital's cafeteria today. Braised pork shank with an apple and brandy sauce. Holy smokes, it was super tender and uber yummy!

I know it!

They've really stepped it up in last couple of years. 2 days ago I got the Moroccan lamb stew served in a sour dough basket. That was scrumptious as well!

That apple should give you an idea of how big that shank was. It was a lot of meat for $5 :)

The one hospital in Tampa, TGH, has a McDonald's in it. Funny...gotta keep the hospital busy and full. Best way how....put a fast food chain in it lol.

Sadly, this seems to be a trend around the USA. I feel this is shameful and unacceptable

Mate since when the hospital food becomes so posh ?

I don't know when this all happened at my hospital, since I always bring my own lunch. I had to buy lunch one time last summer, which I opted for the chicken tandoori on nan bread, and stumbled upon this new culinary makeover. Ever since, I would scan the weekly menu and see if anything catches my interests.

tonight, home made chili.

Trend?.....there has been a McDonalds attached to the Children's Hospital here since the eighties. It was during my stay there as a kid where I was introduced to chicken Mcnuggets lol.

With hospitals trying desperately to cut cost, cafeterias seems to be one of the first area to get eliminated since they typically don't make any profit. So, they lease out the large space to franchise eateries. Now, they get income and free of a payroll. This strategy may have existed for quite some times, but there has been a significant increase in the practice in the past 10 yrs.
