What are your thoughts on long finned fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It really depends what fish it is. I have a longfin bristlenose and I love the flowing fins. I also like butterfly koi’s. Now if it was an Oscar or tiger barbs, then no.

I don't like them, any of them .........

I don't like longfin bettas, but otherwise I like longfin fish.
Your 'poor goldfish' has been chewed by something.
In general (excluding pearlscale, tosakin, celestial and a couple of others) fancy goldfish can swim pretty well, as long as the water isn't too fast.
fire cracker sword tails are really nice.
Looked these up. They are incredible. Those swordtails are far beyond any betta or goldfish. Can't decide if I love them or hate them.

I don't like any mutants. Especially flowerhorns. Albinos are cool they happen in nature.

I don't like longfin bettas, but otherwise I like longfin fish.
not sure what you mean by longfin bettas, do you mean halfmoons?
I like my halfmoons. I've kept many halfmoons, and they all lived past at least 2. (my red and white halfmoon 'tricky' died christmas eve 2017 at the ripe age of almost 4... never made it to 4 though.)

I personally like long fins, I owned a butterfly koi and he was beautiful to me. My fancy goldfish are not called long finned but their tails are nice, long and flowy.

There is a point when it becomes excessive, or inhibits the fishes ability to swim, sometimes the gene is expressed poorly. Then I don’t like it... But overall I love if not even prefer long finned fish.

long finned fish can control their swimming if you raise them correctly, just depends on what fish it is.
for example, tosakin goldfish.
they get raised differently throughout their lives.
they naturally have long fins.
in the beginning of their lives, they are raised in water with some current so that their tails become stiff and strong. then, they are raised in a smaller place where they can't really move, which makes their tails softer and 'fluffier', and eventually 'curling' the ends.
