I voted for no background, as that is what I do with my own tanks.

Dark blue background.

Black markings on the fish tend to make them disappear into a black background.

To me, black backgrounds look sterile and the fish look like they are swimming on the moon in outer space instead of in water.

Dark blue is what a large body of water tends to look like. I like a more organic look to my tank.

I am going to paint the back of my aquarium dark blue because I am tired of seeing all the cords attached to the back of the aquarium.

It will be a lot less money than getting the roll background you see at your LFS.

Diffused mirror (tint) all the way! Objects up close are clear, objects further away are fuzzy or dark. Helps to increase lighting efficiency and schoolers love it (if tinting two or more sides). In a planted tank it gives unbelievable depth. Makes your tank look much larger! Know whats even better? It comes in different transperencys too so you can tint the sides and still see through it when the lights are on. Acts like a two way mirror. The brighter side has the mirror effect while the dark side is transparent. Note: this really only works well if you run higher power lighting and is a bad idea for those with aggresive, territorial fish.

Yeah, I'm a retard... lol

thanks for everyones votes and replies. :)
only bad thing about black is my tank was sw so it has stains on the glass.
a black backing shows off the stains.
and if i paint the tank i think it would be worse.
im trying to remove most of the stains but its tuff.
i guess im going to do my idea.
i have a white 9' vinyl pull down shade, plan to cut an 8x2 piece out of it.
then use black krylon paint that flexes and sticks to alot.
shouldnt look too bad.
and thats why im not painting the tank, down the road i can change it.
thanks again for the votes. :)
