Something in the category of "squish first, ask questions later". I'm very into letting predatory insects do their own thing, but I tend to not feed them. Even the non-venemous beetles with pincers can tear up fish from the inside. My normal checklist tends to go... Could I eat it? Is it pointy / fanged? Is it well washed? There aren't many things in the northeast US that fit that bill that aren't safe to feed. ^_^ You'll get more than a few odd looks asking these things out loud. lol.

I FEED MINE WORMS, CRICKETS, STINKBUGS, BEETLES, SPIDERS, FLIES......I ALSO GIVE THEM THOSE SNAILS THAT CRAWL ON THE SIDEWALK OR YA SCREEN DOOR THAT ARE 2-4", SALAMANDERS AND FROGS.(YES I KNOW THEY ARENT INSECTS) THEY LOVE THEM!
I got a green sunfish and feed him whatever I find in my back yard and the occasional nightcrawler. I feed him live minnows from a drainage ditch. not safe with pet store fish cuz they are far more prone to diseases. get him feeders if you can
