Will that fin trait still carry over even if it was sustained after birth through damage from anther fish or on an object within the aquarium.

When bred the dorsal fin trait will carry over in half of the fry. You will need to selectively breed afterwards to eliminate the problem.

Very vivid imagination Mr Foiremouth.
Are you trying to say that if one half of an aggressive courting pair suffered hard ray damage during the courting process, that half the fry (Whether from this spawn or two to three generations down the line.) would suffer that same defect? For some strange reason i find it very hard to beleive that this would be hereditry.

Just the same as i would find it hard to beleive if you told me that old, one armed, Mr Jones, on one of his wild and wacky adventures, had hired a prostitute for the evening. Sent her home after he had his way with her. Only to discover 10 months down the line that his having only one arm, was actually hereditry and passed down to his new son, Bill. Who happened to be missing that exact same arm.

Anyway, you may be correct but i, for one, would like to see some proof.

I to had the same doubts.

I must have missed the part of the message where the op indicated that the fin was damaged after birth. It could just as easily be a congenital deformity. Guess if/when he breeds it we'll know the answer (unless he tells us how the damage occured). You're assuming post-birth damage; Mr. Firemouth is assuming congenital deformity. Anybody's guess at this point.
