What does stingray sperm look like?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i see a lot of people ask this ? but i have never seen any in my tank this could be as breeding normally takes place at night so its gone by the morning or my tinfoils have cleaned it up fast as they eat everything else

or it maybe the ray has missed the right spot to get the ray preg thats why you see it in the tank then he trys again and nails her

I think the female ejects the "sperm plug" after use. It may be wrong. I am sure aquaman can comment. I definitely saw the plug a long time after mating. Do not forget t1 that you have an active tank with quite a few different fish who could Hoover up whereas I only have two rays alone...even though I saw the male eating some.....not something I am keen to adopt myself but I have been known to encourage the ladies. It in a different way...lol

Quite right Toby. The plug is released approx 24hrs after copulation, its basically a big waxy blob, i have seen it hanging from the females cloaca many times before been expelled onto the aquarium floor, I currently have 4 females gravid, I found a plug in all cases, however I have had times where I missed it,rays do eat it ,I've witnessed this also.

Im with you on this one Richard, i've also seen the same thing with my female after the male has mated her. Have to admit it does look like chewed up raw prawn though.

Yes very similar to a chewed raw prawn,i always find it,constantly finding them here, mass ray orgies going on!I have to say cant be a bad old life being a male ray! Apart from swimming in your own sperm that is! :)

Or it ould be that the male has 2 organs and only one goes inside the female but the other one may still eject sperm or how would each organ know which one is in use

But you are right I have seen milky water but never any plug or sperm so the other fish probably eat it fast

I read that they use one for urination and other breeding but could be Internet garbage. My tank was 100% then found the plug the next day next to the female....about the size if a walnut.
