Riley the Ambassador Skink wants everybody to know that not all Tannies are vicious! He is a model citizen and doesn't even huff when picked up.
He gives the best wide-eyed looks when he knows I have treats for him.
But then he slinks away after he gets what he wants!
Something I find very cute and unique is that he developed elongated scales on his upper 'lip' as he matured. I call them his vampire fangs. Here he is cuddled up in my bf's jacket when he was younger, before he got his fangs:
You can see them clearly here:
Now big Ping. Through these pics you can see the surprising amount of food he can eat.
"The more I eat, the more I can poop in my water dish!"
Size difference. Ping can't be trusted so the only way I could get this picture was to distract him with food.

Savannah monitors perhaps? they're fairly cheap and affordable.

i know you said you can't get snakes, but why not try and convince your parents? or maybe sneak one in and keep it hidden like i did.

I own 4 leoperd geckos and there great! They aint a daytime rep, but most of us either work or school so your not home to enjoy them anyways. As soon as its the evening mine are always out and are always fun to hold.
i just want to mention that it all depends on the individual animal, for example: 95% of all nile monitors are extremely aggressive, but i have also seen niles that were dog tame, on the other end of the spectrum, the vast majority of uros are very tame but i have worked with a particular uro that is one of the most aggressive lizard i have ever dealt with.
