What is the difference of Longnose,Florida and spotted Gar.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would try several pellets twice a day when small.

How do I know when their belly is full? And how much food could I feed the juveniles per day?

You will see a bulge sometimes but I only fed my Florida Gar every other day. My Gar would eat to no end if I allowed it too lol. Just make sure everyone gets food.

Thanks guys.
How old do spotted and Florida Gars get?
Are those two species common in aquariums?

When very young they should have a constant supply of food, rosey red minnows do the trick. When about 5-7" they can be switched to prepared foods. Its tough but not that difficult. Lots of threads about that.

Great question. I’ve been wondering this as well. Debating on getting a gar in the future. Thanks for the informative answers too.

I’ve read not to grow out a tiny gar in a large tank because it might not find food. that is better to upgrade the tank with the size of the gar. Ultimately Going through a few tanks. Is there any truth to this?
