What is the most intelligent freshwater fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The most intelligent freshwater fish is a carp. He is 197 years old and lives under a bridge in Malmo, Sweden. His name is "Bjorg" and he is a very moody SOB too.

I believe that mormyrids have the largest brain to body weight ratio of any family of fishes, but some of that capacity is undoubtedly devoted to their electro-magnetic senses. Some of the larger CA/SA cichlids are rumored to be very intelligent as well, with this characteristic most commonly attributed to oscars. I also find datnoids, my favorite fish, to be quite intelligent and expressive.

Puffers are fairly intelligent also. My old fahaka recognized the difference between my wife and I. He would beg for food from me but completely ignore my wife.

i heard somewhere in discovery channel its the whale of some sort. the one that has the biggest brain with the nucleus same as of with our human brain.

Whales aren't fish either lol

I have heard Oscars are very intelligent, my puffers are pretty smart, as well. I am sure polypterus, dats, aros are all up there too.

Better include the Elephant Nose in this category also.

I imagine eels are pretty smart. Cichlids are too. Knifefish and elephant nose too?
