What is the most intelligent freshwater fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most big predator fish is quite aware of their surroundings, because they are predators. As a result they tend to interact more with their owners (owner = food), now I don't know if that make them smarter, but it sure makes them more fun to keep as pets :)

Are we talking any fish. Sharks would have to be up there. My Oscar was pretty intelligent. I remember when I put a Jaguar Cichlid that was 1/3 his size. It looked like he was thinking snack time. I kinda pointed at it and it stayed away. I kept doing it for about 10 mins and it never touched the Jag after that. So apparently, it knew that I didn't want him eating the Jag.

IMO, the most intelligent FW fish is the one that has succeeded in never alerting humans of its existence.

what about Megalodon? I bet they are pretty smart.

I think this is really an opinion thread apposed to finding a straight answer.
You can debate all day which you think is smartest, but two facts are:

There is no fixed way to compare and determine which fish is smarter as fish are smart in different ways. And secondly the fact that we are forever finding new species means even if there was a way or test to determine the smartest now, tomorrow a new fish will have to be considered.
