wow 23" is impressive. What width would it have been at that stage? Are they still quite thin or do they get much thicker?

im gonna try to get 3 ropes this month! are there dif types? mine was very long and slender and ate from my hand and was very active. my friends is fat and stout and hides all day. just curious.

Nope just 1 E. calabaricus

yeah they can get big mine right now is about 15 and its still young.
as far as being active mine rests for a while semi hidden ready to pounce on passer byes, than has moments where he cruises and swims laps.

make sureeeeeeeeeeeee you have every open spot on ur tank taped, they loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee climbing and will end up dead on the floor, read anything on them and it will back this up,they will get up to around 3 ft only a few have been found that large though ,they also will eat feeders as mine did

Oldie Bump for ropefish. Lots of fans of this popular fish.

Fact or Fiction? For those who are familiar. Lfs of mine stated from their supplier that most of these are caught with the usage of poison. To draw them out to catch. That's why sometimes they arrive unhealthy. The lfs owner wanted his customers to wait a week or 2. In order to filter the ones that dont't make it.

I had one that was (measured) 16" and have seen 18"+. 3' I very much doubt though, 20" is probably closer.

As for the catching, it's not poison, they use soap to reduce the surface tension which makes them unable to breathe air and they are then just collected off the surface. Pretty cruel.

my big one is somewhere between 14-16" but so shy its impossible to get a good measurement. I just know that when he doesn't quite reach across the 18" tank, has a few inches to go on either side
