While HMF are considered great filters, the reason I am thinking of moving back to the 3 AC110s is the simple reason when my rhom died I was running the 3 AC110s and kept the last aimara for 7+ months without any of these health issues. Within ~2-3 days of installing the HMF is when he jumped out of the tank, and since then I had issues with the GATF that died, and now issues with this guy. I can't say the HMF is the problem but I am just think it might make things simpler and the AC110s at least will be more resilient than the HMF.

Finally got my 3 AC110s up and running. Did a 20% water change and siphoned out a ton of brown gunk that accumulated behind the HMF. Hoping this helps increase water quality and is more stable. I have left the HMF up and running but probably just for a week. I also got brand new heaters that I installed.

He is still active and eating, but worried about the wounds not healing. I will be treating with prazpro to make sure he doesnt have some sort of parasite that is weakening his immune system. I have also picked up hikari bio-bandaid that will require me to catch and directly apply to the wounds for several days in a row.

After the above treatments we will see if he begins healing. At this stage I am more worried about secondary causes for the HITH/HLLE than it being hexamata but that is an assumption. The only way for me to verify 100% is to take him to a fish vet which I am not prepared to do just yet.

If the above does nothing, then who knows what the next steps are.

I hope for the best for your fish! Looks similar to what my old flowerhorn had, zoom in on the face to see the pitting...never found a way to completely heal it.

Well I failed miserably today in trying to catch him and treat him with bio-bandage. Tomorrow I bit the bullet and will buy a 40g. I will try a maracyn 2 bath. At least in the smaller tank I can control better.

Biggest reason I am going that route is that he got extremely stressed and started breathing heavily. Can't do this 7 days in a row.

Picked up a 40g breeder from pet smart and set it up with one of the running ac110. After tons of research I decided to treat him with Kanaplex and furan 2. My thoughts are that in addition to the holes on his head the eroding/scar looking areas on his head could actually be columnaris. Regardless the selected treated is relatively safe and covers a broad spectrum. One worry is that pet smart didn't have glass tops so I've had to create a makeshift lid and weight it down.

I will say this guy was a pain to catch. He wasn't aggressive but just extremely elusive. And wow has he out in size. I got him at around 4in in March and I could swear he is around 9in now. Really like this guy and hope this treatment helps.

And the journey continues. It seems like the treatment is doing something. There is some healing but the areas were so severe it's hard to tell if it's scarring or the disease remains. Due to the severity I've decided to continue the treatment of Kanaplex and furan 2 for another 5 days. Considering adding metroplex which is allowed. I will also be adding stability to try and make sure my BB doesn't get completely wiped out.

The other big goal is disinfecting my 180g. I think all media in that tank will get tossed including my hmf filter which sucks. I'm thinking I will added a 9 to 1 ratio of bleach to the running tank to completely disinfect everything. Will then wash out and dry out the tank. It will require a ton of bleach but this has been such a nightmare and I don't know how to handle without being extreme. Don't want this to recur.

moe214 moe214 im actually amazed with this fish. With everything he's going through i would expect him to be a goner. Really hope this treatment cures him. Started second round of treatment tonight and hoping to disinfect the 180g over the next week.

Me not being much for meds, I have been surprised many times with how much fish can come back from.
