How about Leiarius pictus ?
max of under 24" . Stunning to look st , especially when young. Long whiskers, wideish mouth.
can rule out Leiarius marmoratus as that will grow too big.
I have three pictus all 24" and one over 24". Same as our three marmoratus. You neighbor Josh Rpul has a 36"+ pictus.

This is moot to the OP but I was wondering why you said what you said. For all intents and purposes I have seen and met, all Leiarius species are the same adult / max size.

I'm okay with a solitary fish. I find it really cool to have an aggressive solitary predator fish.
Do you realize these fish (such as the catfish we have been discussing) are expected to live for at least 10 years but more likely 2-3 decades given proper care? Almost no one ever keeps any fish in one enclosure for life.

To me this is a paper talk.

People's circumstances change and evolve. Sometimes life helps grow in the hobby, other times, one must sacrifice the hobby. You won't have the same income between now and 10, 20, and 30 years from now, probably not the same house.

Zugs, must it be a catfish catfish? Perhaps a pleco? I think you’ll like the black dragon cactus pleco. Expensive but jet black, blacker than midnight, and black all the way through.

Was just going on the quoted size nose to base of tail on pcf. TBH I have never seen a pictus any bigger than 24" in 30 years. I don't doubt the size of josh's fish but if I recall correctly he picked it up well over half grown and having not seen it or any decent pictures of it, I may question it being a full pictus from only pictus parents. If it is, then why has Jules not changed the website? Although, again, if it is, and it probably is, it's the only one I have ever heard of of that size. A bit like humans, 6ft is average and expected hence the size of doors, but 8ft happens now and then, but we don't make doors 8ft high just in case.

I believe exceptions are to be made with leiarius cats due to their incredibly wide whisker span (2x their body length). Ive learned this from asking around about them, not actual experience. Theyre a hopefully someday fish for me.

Yes, the ratio of whiskers length to body length decreases as they grow but they still have exceptional whiskers and hence require a wider environment.
