Hello everyone, in a few weeks I will be adding a severum and a few other cichlids plus a catfish to my now cycling 75 gallon aquarium and I want to know from all the severum owners out there.....what is the best looking kind in your opinion between green, gold, red, and rotkeil/ red shoulder. My LFS is capable of getting any of them but I can't decide. I would like it to stick out in color from the other fish that will eventually be in the tank including giant danios, a rainbow shark, striped raphael catfish, sailfin pleco (until to big, yeah I know but I already have it in my 30), a convict cichlid, a firemouth, and a four lined pim. It is going to be the "centerpiece" of my tank so I want it to be the first fish that people will notice.

I've owned the green, gold, and red variety and my favorite color wise was the red by far. However, it really is just a personal preference...

I only currently own a small one... (It is green with stripes and a red bottom...) I completely forget what it is called LOL! But get a "super red" they look the best IMO. Look at the pic below.

Yeah I have narrowed it down to either green or red at this point and it's a hard decision (I'll probably change my mind another 10 times before I get it though). Is there a certain one that is more personable and friendly or gets larger? I always look for personality when buying fish.

You probably have a red shoulder or red shoulder X green.

The only reason I wouldn't do a super red is I don't like to have to much of one color in a tank and with a firemouth, there would be much orange and red, just in case I change my mind, would a blue acara (not green terror X blue acara) work in place of the firemouth? Not doing it for sure but just want to know in case.

Green's can be just as sharp as any other severums at certain times. They tend to change alot... darker, lighter, banded.. ect.. Mine displays a really awesome green at times. If I had to narrow it down between my green, gold and red I would keep my red.

Alright then, its sounding like I will get a super red but the final decision won't be made until I am actually about to buy the fish.

My green has ALOT of personality and he is 2-3 inches... But i assume that all severums may be this way...

Here are a few of mine. Hard for me to pick a "best" one. IMO,they're all spectacular.
