I have caught some big ones over the years.
3 1/2ft by 3 1/2ft Cownose ray in Punta Gorda, Florida on light line (12-15lb test. I know because earlier one that was fought for 5 mins was tired out and broke off because I reeled too hard.) There is no existing igfa jr record for this species so when I go down next year I'll just have to catch another one. Also on my agenda for the flats next year: Eagle Rays, Stingrays, Seatrout, Redfish, Snook, Jack Crevalle, small Sharks.
I recently landed a 12 1/2 inch Bluefish on a local pier. It was on a "test-cast." No bites all day (except when I set out a baitfish on the surface and each time Terns swooped in and stole them.) I tied on a heavy Luhr-Jensen Krocidile. One the first cast I hooked something that took line for about a second then started coming in. It even jumped.
12 1/2 inch LMB on a creme nightcrawler at Clove Lake.
About 2ft Searobin on the side of a highway in the Rockaways on a Bunker Chunk. Our Ft. Tilden Striper thing was cancelled (we made reservations a week early and we didn't know till we got there.) worse, my friend, an ameutuer fisherman was there. Eagre to start I told my Dad to pull over. He did. I caught the big Searobin (What a fight!) and my friend caught
HIS FIRST FISH another big Searobin! (Not as big as mine tho.)
.
(different trip.) A couple Keeper Fluke but all went free.
A BIG Black Seabass that my Dad kept because it came up dead.
