Most aquarium societies (clubs) have a Breeders Award Program (BAP).
You bring a minimum number of fry to a meeting (my club was minimum 5) per species, donate them, and get points toward different stages, of your fish breeding development.
The fry are usually auctioned off at the end of meetings, which gives the club a little extra funding, and allows other members a chance to grow out, and breed types of fish they might not normally have a chance to try, and you get to reduce stock without using them as feeders..
Other breeder members also bring in fry, and you might get a chance to try something you may not have thought of before.
Often times the cost of these species is pennies on the dollar compared to LFS prices.
If I had large spawns I wouldn't hesitate to bring in multiple bags of fish.
