What type of Bichir is this?

We recently re-set up our tank. We got two bichirs, one looks almost completely black. Kind of like this one in the video, but he's pretty tiny (like may be two inches right now).

Does anyone know what kind he is and how fast we can expect him to grow??

I’m by no means a bichir expert, but the only black one I can think of is an ornate.
They get up to 24 inches.

I cant remember where I was reading it but I believe that sometimes the odd/dark coloration is a result of the bichir being blind. Since it can not distinguish between night and day it will sometimes show a certain way that is not considered 'normal' coloration. The one in the video appears to be an ornate and the way it is searching for food makes me wonder if it is blind.

Anyway just an odd theory, wish I could find some more info on it.

I think Frank had a dark bichir at one point, and I seem to remember it being blind.

I would expect the growth of the a almost completely black bichir (if it's blind) to be slow since it has to spend quite a bit of time finding food.

What if the owner target feeds him? Would that help with his senses any and eventually lead to the bichir being able to find food more easily?

As long as the other fish don't get to it, it would be okay. But the best method is keeping it in a tank that doesn't have fast eating fish.

Yes Ornate are a dark color with the yellow but agree with DMD123 about blindness making them black. The Bichir in the vid has no eyes.

Try feeding earth worms, mine don’t use their eyes to find them, you can see the nose working to hunt them down

Bichirs dont need to be target feed, most bichirs are almost bling and they use sense of smell to located food, also they are noctural feeder and thay are ised to pitch black during feeding.

Auramaticula are really friendly for snakeheads it keeps surprising me. My snakehead would kill everything i put with it
